The Agri-food and Health of the Campus of International Excellence, Moncloa Campus strengthens collaboration between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UCM , School of Agricultural Engineering (UPM) and the INIA .

The Campus of International Excellence, Moncloa Campus divides its research activity into six clusters. The Agri-food and health cluster is coordinated by Lucas Domínguez Rodríguez, a Professor at the Animal Health Department at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UCM and head of VISAVET (Health Surveillance Centre), and by Margarita Ruiz Altisent, a Professor at the University School of Technical Agricultural Engineering of the UPM.

Both of them agree that the cluster has clear positive aspects that strength the existing relationship between both universities and other centres such as INIA, the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Technology.

This project aims to create an area of research excellence in a wide corridor located in la Vega de Manzanares that goes from the School of Technical Agricultural Engineering to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The aim of this corridor is to generate new opportunities for research and educational programs in the field of Agri-food and health and to create an attractive area for public and private investment.

At the moment, the cluster has seventy research groups. They have recently invested around € 600,000 in improving facilities of the UPM and UCM. This investment has been for animal facilities and an urban study for the Soto2020 project. In addition, € 800,000 has been invested in high-level scientific equipment.
