Challenges for Machu Picchu”™s conservation: Rock weathering, biodeterioration and geomorphologic risks

Challenges for Machu Picchu A seminar will be held under the title: ”œChallenges for Machu Picchu”™s conservation: Rock weathering, biodeterioration and geomorphologic risks” on June 5th at the Museo de Ámérica. The day is organized by the Geomaterials Programme, coordinated by the Applied Petrology for Heritage Conservation Research Group, from the Geosciences Institute IGEO (CSIC-UCM) and belonging to the Heritage Cluster of the Moncloa Campus, along with the Museum of America.

The workshop arises from research conducted by Geomaterials participating members, and it is related with conservation issues that directly affect the soil and rock materials of the Archaeological Site of Machu Picchu. The topics to be addressed fall within the priorities lines of the Global Change and New Energies and Heritage Clusters. Read more

The Geomaterials Programme , Durability and preservation of built heritage geomaterials, funded by the Community of Madrid and the European Social Fund, is coordinated by the Applied Petrology for Heritage Conservation Research Group, from the Geosciences Institute IGEO (CSIC-UCM) and belonging to the Heritage Cluster.

The Programme entails to achieve several scientific and technological objectives and it acomplishes dissemination and training activities, such the proposed workshop, ”œChallenges for Machu Picchu”™s conservation: Rock weathering, biodeterioration and geomorphologic risks”.

The seminar was organized in coordination with the Museum of America and involves researchers from the Comenius University in Bratislava (Slovakia), the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) in Madrid, in collaboration with the Carolina Foundation, and the Institute of Geosciences IGEO (CSIC-UCM).

The topics to be addressed in the workshop fit into the priorities lines of the Global Change and New Energies and Heritage Clusters, considered of interest to many research groups that are part of CEI Campus Moncloa.
