Corneal Biomechanical Properties from Corneal deformation imaging

International Seminars of Frontiers in Materials Science UPM-CIE Moncloa

21/02/2014

Title: Corneal Biomechanical Properties from Corneal deformation imaging

Date: Monday 14th February at 09:30

Place: E.T.S. Civil Engineering, basement 1

Speaker: Susana Marcos

Free admission

Measuring corneal biomechanical properties is critical to monitor corneal pathologies that compromise corneal integrity, and as a predictive tool for treatment. However, most corneal biomechanical data to date come from classical extensiometry experiments.

The seminar will present state-of-the art imaging-based methods which, along with Finite Element Modelling, have allowed estimation of corneal elastic and viscoelastic parameters. Methods range from corneal inflation models to air-puff corneal dynamic deformation. Clinical applications including corneal cross-linking treatments and intrastromal implants will be also presented.
