The diodo laser and semiconductor laser are the main optoelectronic devices in terms of relevance and variety of applications including optical communications, data storage, instrumentation, material processing, diagnosis and medical treatment. The high brightness laser diode combines a high output power of good optical quality improving its features in a high number of applications.

The presentation will give an insight of the operating bases, the art state and high brightness laser applications highlighting how material properties and geometrical design can affect the performance of the devices.
