The Moncloa Campus has recently acquired an advanced multimodal room of virtual reality. This room that was installed by the Ingevio Company is the first wheelchair adapted cave in the world. It is a two-sided cave (wall and floor) equipped with two Christie Mirage DS+6K-M stereoscopic projectors. The installation was funded by the Equipment & Infrastructures Call of the Moncloa Campus.

The research group of Life Supporting Technologies (LifeSTech) of UPM is responsible for the management of the cave. This group works on the design y development of smart systems to support citizens to have a better life quality.

The new reality virtual room is connected to Smart House Living Lab allowing users to interact with a virtual world which is connected to a real room where it can model diverse scenarios such as an accessible house, an operating room, a office and a emergency department. This cave aims to provide a smart environment where technological prototypes tests can be tested with users in real conditions.

The Smart House Living lab is a 150 square meter house fully equipped for the daily life of any person including disabled people. This house is flexible and allows the monitoring and experimentation of applied ICT to improve life quality, mainly in the health sector. In this environment, researchers and companies can analyze the acceptation by users of the generated solutions, its usability grade and to assess the feasibility of commercializing a product.

The virtual reality room has a pioneering development that allows the access of either motorized or manual wheelchairs.
