The day opened with the speech of Joaquín Plumet, the Vice-rector for Research at the UCM, who highlighted the relevance of the project and its main programme, the International Programme for Attracting Talent (PICATA), which confers prestige and possibilities to expand human resources.
During 2012, the Moncloa Campus incorporated 33 graduated students in this programme who are currently conducting their Doctoral thesis and 22 young doctors who are distributed in the 5 clusters: Global Change and New energies, Materials for the Future, Agrifood and Health, i-Health and Heritage. Throughout 2013, ten doctors will be incorporated to the different clusters.
As it happens with the rest of CIE Moncloa activities, the transparence is a must of the project, for this reason the CIE Moncloa organizes workshops frequently, where young researchers belonging to PICATA programme present the research in which they are involved. The last workshop was held at the School of Forestry on 12, 13 and 14 of February.
There are very diverse subjects studied within this programme such as Chagas disease, Parkinson's disease, tuberculosis, food safety of products made and antitumor therapy. However, there are also other more specialized subjects as acoustic waves of surface in graphene, development of magnetic materials en two dimensions or quantum transport in various materials.
Besides, the monthly publication of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Tribuna Complutense, has published this month a report of the CIE Moncloa project and an article of the PICATA workshop
