The Minister of Education, Ángel Gabilondo, and the Minister of Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia have inaugurated the Summer Science Campus 2011 in the CEI Moncloa today. Being this year the second edition celebrated in the UCM.
This educational program aims to raise the scientific vocation of 1,200 high school students through direct contact with the research work. For this reason, the CEI Moncloa will develop four projects related to all areas of science. They have the following headings: scientific collections as evidence of Biodiversity, New technologies in agrifood and health: from farm to table; Scientific applications for conservation and restoration of heritage, and finally, introduction to research through astronomical observation.
The Summer Science Campus will take place from 3 to 30 July in laboratories and departments of Universidad Complutense and Politécnica de Madrid and coordinated by Campus of International Excellence. Those Campus will be led by university professors and high school teachers.
This year's edition has received over 7,200 applications. This high figure shows the interest generated by this program and its future projection
