The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Universidad Complutense de Madrid have inaugurated a radiotelescope within the framework of the Moncloa Campus which will contribute to bring astronomy to the youngest students.
Antenna
The start of the radiotelescope is the result of a close collaboration between the UCM group of Space Astronomy and Optimal Management of Astronomical Resources (AEGORA) and Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering of the UPM where the antenna is installed. Measuring the rotation curve of the Milky Way and to detect the sun activity are two examples of actions that will be performed.
The installation of the antenna was carried out by the Radiation Group UPM which is also responsible for its maintenance and calibration. The technologies to study will cover from instrumentation to electromagnetic radiation and signal processing.
