Second Meeting of Junior Doctors and predoctoral students of Moncloa Campus

The beneficiaries of the International Program for attracting talent (PICATA) were the main focus of a meeting chaired by the vice-rectors of research of the universities Complutense and Politécnica of Madrid, Joaquín Plumet and Gonzalo León, and by the delegate of the rector of the UPM in the Moncloa Campus, Ines Minguez. The event took place on the first anniversary after the start of their work with the objective of increasing the interaction between the beneficiaries (PhD students, PhD directors, young PhDs and the supervisors of the project), cluster coordinators, adivosry committees and the executive committee of the Moncloa Campus.
In the meeting the need of developing the synergies between both institutions was highlighted, taking into account that the Moncloa Campus is a joint project that must be acknowledged by all the PICATA awarded scientist in their works to increase the visibility of the Campus. In addition, the participation of other entities integrated in the Campus Moncloa (CSIC, CIEMAT, INIA, IGME, AEMET, Hospitals, etc..) must be also highlighted, as they are a basic component of the project.

Campus directors referred also to the need of having PhD students (when in the stage of contract) and post-doctoral PICATA implicated in teaching activities as an ideal complement in their training. Cluster coordinators also valued the high level of the beneficiaries of the program and highlighted all the tasks already ongoing.

A new call for 14 new post-doc positions in 2012 was also announced, as well as the possibility of applying for mobility funding for PICATA PhD students to fund short training stays in other research centers.

Another highlight was the announcement of the launch of the International Postgraduate School of Moncloa Campus, that in the next year will have already completed the list of the degree programs available in the campus, as well as of joint masters. Finally, the possibility of increasing the use of the infrastructures available for both universities in other campus like Montegancedo, Somosaguas and TecnoGetafe was remarked.
