Campus Moncloa
Campus of International Excellence
Astronomía espacial - Gestión de recursos astronómicos
Main research lines
- World Space Observatory-Ultraviolet, WSO-UV Project
Objetives: At present the group's activity is focused on the launch of the Space Telescope project ultraviolet (UV) World Space Observatory - Ultraviolet (WSO-UV) (www.wso-uv.es) to develop and operate an astronomical satellite the ultraviolet range of the spectrum. The WSO-UV Space Telescope is an international project led by Russia and involving Spain and Germany will be launched into orbit in 2016 and operated until 2024. WSO-UV will be the only facility that provides access to the UV range at the conclusion of the mission of the Hubble Space Telescope. The Spanish contribution to the project is the ground segment and ISSIS imaging instrument (Imaging and Spectroscopy Instrument for Surveys Slitless). The UCM is responsible scientific project in Spain. The international agreement between Roscosmos and CDTI signed in March 2007 provides scientific operations and mission of the project will be shared between Spain and Russia. The operations center will be on the campus of UCM. The Vice President for Research is responsible for serving as project scientist in Spain and the Principal Investigator of the project is Prof. Spain. Ana Ines Gomez de Castro. Channeled AEGORA UCM activity for this project. - Plasmas Astrofísicos
Objetivos: Plasmas Astrofísicos - Ultraviolet Astronomy
Objetives: In January 2004 was generated NUVA (Network for UltraViolet Astrophysics), the European Network for ultraviolet astronomy, funded by the European Union within the project OPTICON and through, the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). The fundamental objective is to design NUVA strategic lines of ultraviolet astronomy in Europe in the medium / long term and coordinate the efforts of the astronomical community to get funding for a UV telescope. The network coordinator is Prof. Ana I. Gómez de Castro and NUVA site lies in the UCM (www.ucm.es / info / nuva). The network includes European as reference centers for Ultraviolet Astronomy: University of Leicester (UK), the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Tubingen (Germany), the Centre-University of Catania (Italy), the Institute of Astrophysics Paris (France), the Observatory, Tel-Aviv University (Israel), the University of Toulouse (with a strong experience in developing instrumentation) and Evora (extraordinarily active in supercomputing and coordinator of Erasmus Intensive Training Program in supercomputer funded by the European Union). In the absence of large European facilities UV astronomy, the network has become NUVA scientific reference and coordination. The NUVA has strong connections with major research centers in UV astronomy world, especially in Russia, China, U.S. and India. - Education and Astronomy
Objetives: The group is also the Spanish node of global educational project Hands-On Universe (www.houspain.com) aimed at renewing the teaching of science in high school by means of introducing teenagers in space research and astronomy. The European consortium HOU (www.euhou.net) has been awarded recently (May 2009) with the silver medal of the European Commission in the "Information and Communication Technologies" for its efforts to make Europe "the most dynamic and competitive knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010 in the field of Education and Training ". - Operations Research: optimization and data Mining
Objetives: Linked to WSO / UV, and the astronomical archives NUVA are several processes optimization and data mining that led to a collaboration with Prof. Javier Yañez - Estrellas masivas
Objetivos: Estrellas masivas - Archivos y Bases de Datos de misiones espaciales
Objetivos: Archivos y Bases de Datos de misiones espaciales - Estrellas T Tauri
Objetivos: Estrellas T Tauri - Simulación Numérica de Plasmas Magnetizados
