Campus of International Excellence
Global Change and New Energies
The groups in this cluster are articulated around environmental issues and new energies. The aggregation of CIEMAT, the highest Spanish institution in environmental studies and energy with special facilities (nuclear fusion reactor TJ-II, Technofusion) is an additional value in the cluster.
This cluster has objectives to associate a huge wealth of research groups, who are working in the CIS Moncloa in the Earth System, Space, Environment and New Energies, to provide them with a common axis and a coordination mechanism that allows the optimization resources and its international impact.
Priority lines of research designated to improve:
- Environmental and new technologies, aimed at development the new technologies for the production of clean energy and for the prevention, monitoring and mitigation of some environmental problems today.
- Earth Observation System and Space. It focused on prevention of climate change and nuclear disasters, and mitigation of their impacts. It has to take into account that the area including Iberian Peninsula, ocean margins, North Africa and Canary Islands is a particularly sensitive region to them.
- Study and conservation of biodiversity, with special attention to Mediterranean and Latin area, where nowadays there are large reservoirs of biodiversity.
- Socioeconomic dimensions of Global Change.
